New Khadafi Dub music video + some Q&A

A week ago I got in contact with the Philadelphia Dubstep Lyrical Master, Khadafi Dub. He hooked us up with his new music video with Doctor P. and Flux Pavilion for their remix of Louder! I'm sure you are all familiar with the original remix, so now Khadafi adds some awesome vocals to the track.

We sent down a few question for Khadafi, to try and  find out a little bit more about where this guy's passion and inspiration comes from. Check it out!

Khadafi Dubstep Interview:

NV: Being born in Philadelphia, what was the first sign, in your mind, that Music was what you wanted to do? I also read you had a Highschool Basketball Scholarship, can you tell me a little more about that and why you didn’t continue with your sports career?

K : I can answer that with three numbers. 3,5,6. Got footage of doing music when I was 3 and Im 5’6.

NV: Some of are readers may know you better as Hip-Hop artist Konfidential from RedRum Records. You were gaining ton’s of support in your career, from such places like BET, Radio1 & MTV Jams. What caused you take a break from the Hip-Hop scene?

K: I just think it was in the cards for me to do what I’m doing now and to be where I’m at I had to leave the hip hop scene. Hip Hop, as far as a scene, is like that ex girlfriend that you know aint good for you, you know she going to treat you bad but you love her deeply. We are separated right now but I give her a call from time to time to say hi and see what she doing.

NV:Do you see “Konfidential” as being you in the past or has some of him stuck with you and carried through to your Dubstep music?

K: Well my first album “A New Beginning”, a hip hop album, was structured and created to be a classic hip hop album. If I want to make a good dubstep album I cant be trying to make a classic hip hop album so I try my best to not be Konfidential. Konfidential was a light being, he came and went, he is moment in past and right now Im working on my Dubstep album I’m dropping March 10.

NV: After your break, you resurfaced using your birth name, Khalief Khadafi, playing percussion and singing lead vocals with the band “The Urban Shamans”. Can you tell me about your time with them and how that inspired and molded your Dubstep career?

K: I learned how to perform by becoming a Shaman. In hip hop you stand there and grab your crotch. The Shamans taught me much about life and music. That’s what a Shaman does. Shouts to Timi Tanzania, member of the Shamans who first mentioned the word dubstep to me.

NV: Your debut Dubstep release, Rebel From America (2009), has a very different feel lyrically then your previous “Konfidential” work. What were your inspirations behind this track and do you feel you changed as an Artist in this time?

K: When I listen to musicians I listened to when I was young and their still the same, their content and everything is the same I get confused. I think “how can they be the same person, that’s not life, we change and we grow”. My music is whats on my mind, the stage Im at in my life. That’s where I was when I made the music. I think you can listen to Rebel From America and understand where I was at.

NV: Now you’ve been in the Dubstep scene for quite sometime and have made quite the name for yourself. How has running your “Dubstep Mix” facebook page helped you out in your career.

K:No one is going to do anything for you if they don’t see that you can do for yourself.

NV:  I see you have had or have shows coming up with HUGE artist like Zeds Dead, Mord Fustang, Dillon Francis, 12th Planet, Skrillex and more. This must be a huge boost of confidence and how has it been working or being in contact with such “pioneers” of the genre?

K: Im fortunate to be where I’m at and fortune comes from hard work and good planning, most of the time. Those guys you just named work hard and are smart and have smart people around them. Im pushing to have you ask this question to an up and comer and you mention my name like you mentioned ZD , 12th Skrill, Dillon and Mord. I look at those guys as landmarks on this path that Im on. I know where I’m at by looking at them.

NV: This video/remix release of “Louder” by DJ Fresh is some big sound. Working with iconic English producer, Flux Pavilion, and the filthy Doctor P, must have been huge for you? Were you recently on tour with them or was this just filmed at one event?

K:I did 2 shows with them. Philly and New York. Flux told me he always wondered what an American rapper would sound like on his beats and then he heard the Got 2 Know tune I did and was like “oh that’s what it sounds like”. Flux is the man, real sharp, Doc P is the silent assassin. They compliment each other as well as any non duo in the history of music. I know that’s a big statement but Im confident in the history they are on the road to make and are making as we speak.

NV: What is next for Khadafi Dub?

K: I have a series of songs Im going to just be giving out until the album drops on March 10.

I have some shows coming up. You can keep up with all that on my page (KHADAFI'S FACEBOOK)

I have a tune with Night Kids, a Feed Me remix, that has been hitting hard at the live shows that’s dropping soon. My tune with Big Chocolate and Amanda from She Came Crashing will be out in 2 weeks. So im going to keep releasing music and performing. The other plans are top secret if I told you…well lets just say Im not allowed to tell you. hahaha

NV: Lastly, a question we ask in most our interviews, what is your favorite beer?

K: Vegan alcoholic water
